A Brief History
The George Hotel is a striking, idyllic 15th Century coaching inn, with oak beams and inglenook fireplaces throughout. Set in two acres of beautiful grounds and built in 1495 it is one of the oldest coaching inns in the country, allowing you to tread on the path of history.
The George Hotel is situated in the heart of the picturesque village of Dorchester on Thames, a small village dating back to the 11th Century. Prehistoric man, Bronze Age and Iron Age, Romans, Saxons and Normans all have left their traces of dwellings and culture.
In the days of the stagecoach The George provided a welcome haven for many an aristocrat including the first Duchess of Marlborough, Sarah Churchill. However in more recent times we have seen famous guests of a different hue such as author DH Lawrence.
The buildings of The George Hotel have changed little since their heyday as a coaching inn; it retains all the beauty and charm of those days, whilst offering every modern amenity.
The George Hotel offers seventeen en-suite bedrooms, uniquely decorated and furnished with fine antiques, the décor suits the requirements of modern times whilst maintaining the spirit of the past.
We cater for all sizes and types of Weddings, small and intimate through to large marquee grand balls.
The George Hotel is the perfect setting for small Weddings. Our Carriages restaurant offers a fine dining a la carte menu for the more formal reception. A beautiful stained glass window, oak beams and secret garden certainly provides the idyllic venue for your perfect day.
Larger Wedding receptions can easily be accommodated in the Marquee.
